Smart film in Montreal: what to know before ordering

Five technical points that decide the feasibility of a smart film project, before price even enters the conversation.
A PDLC smart film project is not decided on square metres. Five technical points determine feasibility, and all five are checked on site.
1. The condition of the glazing
Film is applied to the interior face of a clean, flat, intact pane. A fogged double-glazed unit, textured glass or mineral deposits change the visual result. We inspect every panel before confirming.
2. The route the power takes
This is what derails badly prepared projects. The film needs a discreet supply reaching the panel, an accessible transformer and a control point that matches how the room is used. In a Montreal retrofit, that usually means routing through the frame, a dropped ceiling or a baseboard.
3. Zoning
A four-panel glass wall can be one zone or four independent zones. That choice changes the wiring, the controller and the price. It is decided on real use: a boardroom does not have the same needs as a chalet glass wall.
4. Site access
Application needs space in front of the glass, a stable temperature and a room free of airborne dust. On an active site, trade sequencing matters: film goes on after the dirty work, before furniture is installed.
5. Winter
Cold does not prevent application, but condensation on a cold pane does. In cold months we schedule application in a heated, stabilised room — never right after a building has been opened up.
What we do with all of this
It forms the project assessment. Only then can a quote be guaranteed rather than estimated.
An honest assessment costs one visit. A bad surprise costs a whole site.
