Questions.
Direct answers, with no invented estimate. This page grows with the questions we receive on projects.
01What is PDLC smart film?
PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) is a film made of liquid crystals dispersed in a polymer, held between two conductive layers. With no power, the crystals are randomly oriented: they scatter light and the surface looks opaque. Under power, they align: light passes through and the surface becomes transparent.
02What is the difference between smart film and smart glass?
Smart film is a layer applied to existing glazing, either self-adhesive or laminated. Smart glass is a glazing unit manufactured with the PDLC layer already integrated. Film lets you transform glass that is already installed; integrated glass is decided at construction stage.
03Can it be installed on glass that is already in place?
Yes, that is the main use case for self-adhesive smart film. Feasibility depends on the condition of the pane, its accessibility, the type of glazing and whether a discreet power supply can reach the panel. This is part of the project assessment.
04How much does PDLC smart film cost?
Pricing depends on total surface area, number of panels, zoning, the type of control and site access conditions. NEOVYE issues a detailed quote after measurement. No price is published until it can be guaranteed.
05How is the film controlled?
With a wall switch, a remote control, or a multi-zone controller when several surfaces must be driven separately. Integration with a smart-home or building management system is assessed project by project.
06Does the film draw power continuously?
The film is transparent only while powered. Its power consumption is approximately 5 W/m² at 60V AC. When off (opaque privacy state), it draws zero electricity.
07Which areas does NEOVYE serve?
NEOVYE serves Montreal, Laval, the North Shore, the South Shore, the Laurentides and the Quebec City area. Coverage expands progressively.
08Is smart film suitable for a bathroom?
It is a common use, provided two points are handled at assessment stage: protection of the film edges and the position of the electrical connection relative to wet zones. We validate both on site before confirming feasibility.
