The physics of privacy.
PDLC does not tint the glass and does not colour it. It controls the way light travels through a layer of liquid crystals.
The material
Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal.
A layer of liquid crystals dispersed in a polymer, held between two transparent electrodes. The state of the surface depends on how those crystals are oriented.
- Power off
- Crystals are randomly oriented. Light scatters. The surface is opaque.
- Power on
- Crystals align. Light passes through. The surface turns transparent.

Power off — opaque
The principle, in three steps.
No moving mechanism. The only thing that moves is the orientation of the liquid crystals.
- Scattering
- With no power, liquid crystals are randomly oriented. Refractive indices do not match: light is scattered. The surface looks opaque.
- Alignment
- Under power, the electric field aligns the crystals along a common axis. Indices match: light passes through without scattering.
- Return
- On power cut, crystals return to a random orientation. The resting state of the film is the opaque state.

What PDLC does, and what it does not.
We would rather be precise than generous.
What it does
- Hides shapes and sightlines in its opaque state
- Keeps natural light coming through
- Allows a split into independent zones
- Works as a rear-projection surface when opaque
What it is not
- It is not a mirror or a reflective film
- It is not a thermal insulation product
- It is not a safety glazing
Visible light transmission, haze, UV protection and power consumption are specific to the selected product. They are communicated from its technical documentation, never estimated.
Control
Every surface, its own zone.
Wall switch, remote control or multi-zone controller. Zones can be driven separately or grouped.
Interactive demo — tap a zone to switch its state.
- Wall switch
- One gesture, one surface. Flush plate, architectural finish.
- Remote control
- Wireless control for surfaces that are hard to reach.
- Multi-zone control
- Every panel becomes an independent zone, or part of a group.
- Smart-home / BMS integration
- Assessed project by project, based on the system already in place.
