Smart glass.

Glass that changes state. Either integrated into the glazing unit, or achieved by applying a film to the glass already in place.

Film or glass: the real difference.

Both approaches give the same visual result. They are not decided at the same moment of a project.

Applied film: PDLC film is applied to the existing pane. No glass replacement, short site work.
Integrated glass: The PDLC layer is laminated into the unit at the factory. Planned with the architect and glazier.
What settles it: Glazing condition, site access, schedule and the cable route that is actually possible.

The same products carry several names. Here is how we use them.

Glazing whose transparency can be controlled electrically. A generic term that includes PDLC.

Emphasis on switching: the glass moves from one state to the other on command.

Common usage for a pane fitted with a film or a switchable glazing unit.
